The links to the tool that I created are currently unavailable. I'm working on correcting that. Apologies!
If you’re like me, having to dig around to find the right password for your Production org or Sandbox can get annoying! Using a URL hack, you can easily save your username and password inside a bookmark and log right in with one click.
WARNING: This method stores your password insecurely in plain text! You SHOULD NOT use this trick on a computer that is shared by more than one person, or leave your computer unattended without being secured. Use this at your own risk.
You will need to update/recreate this link each time you change your password.
The Quick & Easy Way
I created a simple script (here is the code for those that want to see the PHP script) that creates the bookmark for you. Just enter your credentials, select the org type, and click Submit. Once the URL generates just drag and drop into your Bookmark Bar. It’s not the best looking tool, but it works! Read on for directions on how to manually create this link.
The Old Fashioned Way
For this example we’re going to assume the username of ‘email@example.com’ and a password of ‘P@ssword1234!’ to log into a Production org.
- Password Encoding: If you use symbols in your password then this will be a little tedious for you, but worth the effort, in my opinion. For the above example we’re going to use the W3C’s HTML URL encoding table to convert the symbols to the appropriate format. The @ is represented by %40 and the ! is represented by %21. Simply replace the symbol with the HTML URL encoding where applicable, so in our case our new HTML URL encoded password is ‘P%40assword1234%21’. Also note that if you have symbols in your username you will need to do the same with your username.
- Login URL: If you log into a Production/Developer Edition instance you’ll use https://login.salesforce.com and if you are logging into a Sandbox you’ll use https://test.salesforce.com.
- Secret Sauce: Now lets put it all together! We’re logging into a Production org so begin the bookmark URL with ‘https://login.salesforce.com/’ then add the secret sauce of ‘login.jsp?un=’ followed by your username, then ‘&pw=’ followed by your password. Once you put it all this:
